DISCUSSION
KEY MESSAGE 1: Above normal temperatures continue this week with the next chance of rainfall coming on Thursday.
Overall, a quiet period is forecast through the remainder of the weekend and into early next week as high pressure sets up and remains in influence over the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast through at least Wednesday. While a disorganized shortwave is expected to move through the region late Sunday into Monday, much of the region will continue to remain dry thanks to the aforementioned surface high pressure system advecting dry air into the region ahead of this upper level shortwave trough. Nevertheless, some light showers can`t be ruled out in extreme SW Virginia and portions of SE West Virginia in upslope locations late tonight into Monday morning. The area looks to completely dry out once again on Tuesday and most of Wednesday across the region as high pressure slides east off the Mid-Atlantic states coastline.
By early Wednesday, an upper shortwave will eject east from the Rockies into the Central Plains. Surface low will move into the Great Lakes region by Thursday as a trailing front will push east and through the region by early Friday. Guidance has continued to decrease rainfall amounts over the forecast area given lesser deep moisture transport from the Gulf and Atlantic as a result of the upper trough lifting well north of the region. Regardless, should still see a period of areawide rainfall on Thursday, but amounts look to be less than one inch.
Pattern throughout the week will continue to support above normal temperatures. Mid 60s to low 70s to start the week, trending to upper 60s to mid 70s by late week.
