KEY MESSAGES

  • Widespread wetting rain continues through the afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall and a few instances of flash flooding possible.
  • Conditions dry out on Monday as gusty north winds pick up across the region. Temperatures remain slightly below-normal next week.

DISCUSSION

Today through Saturday.

After isolated stronger storms passed through the region last evening, the night brings widespread stratiform rain. Most rainfall rates look to stay light to moderate but there will be potential for locally increased rain rates. Some of these increased rain rates look to be focused on higher peaks as well as in portions of Mohave, Lincoln, eastern Clark, and far eastern San Bernardino counties. The trend of persistent rain will lead to some flood risk, but the momentary increased rain rates over these areas will cause concern for flash flooding. Into the mid morning, higher resolution models show breaks in the rain but still offer scattered showers into the afternoon. Breezy to gusty winds will build as we begin to see some of those breaks in rain. Shower activity begins to erode into the late afternoon and early evening with winds decreasing into the night. The last line of showers could offer spotty storm chances before they exit into that night.

Rainfall totals will favor the more eastern areas with higher elevations in Mohave County looking to break 2 inches of rainfall overnight. The rest of Mohave County and most of Lincoln County will range between 0.75 and 1.50", the Colorado River Valley looks to range from 0.5 to 1.00", Las Vegas will be 0.25 to 0.50", and the rest of the region will be up to 0.50".

The rest of the forecast looks calm and cool with some potential for for windy conditions next weekend.
